Follow me on SCN/LinkedIn to get the information about new tools available to the SuccessFactors consultants/customers. I’m currently working on tool that will help you manage translations of LMS for Eastern European region (when you download the labels from LMS they are typically in the format that is not easy to update) and with this tool you will get possibility to reformat it to .csv format with right encoding and update it in Excel and than reformat back to .txt and upload back to LMS.

Languages in datamodel (for consultants only)

Many times you are facing small issue that when you download actual data model you need to manually remove/update some languages. Now this  work can be done in a second. I’ve developed application that will help you to manage languages in data models really easy. You are now only three clicks away to get one default language in your data model. Intelligent Services introduction

Intelligent services are enhancement of the current situation in SuccessFactors. How to easily describe it? I will ask girl whether she will we marry me. If she say yes. We will get engaged. This is current approach. My question about marriage is manager action. Her yes is workflow approval. And than the change will happen. Intelligent services give some enhancement to this action. E.g. If she say yes than the invitation letters are automatically sent to all people in our contact books. Or it will trigger new task to order hotel for the wedding. Let’s now go to the detail from SuccessFactors perspective.

Workflows on employee edited portlets

Do you have data editable by employees and you need to track the changes and have specific rules for them? This example is about external work experience (education, mobility etc.). From the technical perspective they are called background elements and only as background elements they can be used in Succession talent search. These fields can be editable by employees but as the background element you cannot track changes by the workflow or by any other rule. There is a solution that can help you to solve this.

Event derivation or manual choice of event reasons

Event reason is an activity derived from events that drives changes in employee data. These events are predefined for all instances and cannot be added (as of 1508). Of course, you can deactivate part of them or rename the current events if needed. Standard events delivered from SuccessFactors are listed below (today we will focus on those marked green). The reason why to focus only on these is that they are all available in MSS and we will try to find a the right approach how to offer the managers a simple way to use the SuccessFactors to manage employees.

Automatic User ID generation

When implementing Employee Central you can see some tough questions and it is good to prepare some answers. One of them is automatic generation of UserID. This UserID is used in whole system and all employee data are relevant to this ID. In data model it is called person-id-external and it is used for employee data import and many more. The typical question is how to populate the UserID automatically to cover our business processes.

We will go through several options today. The first option is to create UserID manually according to rules that you have. These rules can be so complex that you cannot cover them by EC rules configuration. This offer the biggest flexibility that you can use everything you want. You can combine names, numbers and special characters. This is the least recommended solution.
